CAGE

PREMIERE: American Repertory Theater / Cambridge, MA
December 15-16, 2018

Music by JOHN CAGE
Conceived by ZACK WINOKUR and CONOR HANICK

CONOR HANICK, piano

AMOC pianist CONOR HANICK (“brilliant…effortlessly elegant,” The New Yorker; “defies human description,” Concerto Net) plays the entirety of John Cage’s epochal Sonatas and Interludes, a hugely influential set of pieces inspired by Indian philosophy and written for prepared piano. This radically intimate experience, with each audience member sitting closely behind the pianist, is a Cageian collaboration between outer-worldly pianistic expression, light, and dance.

“…blindingly impressive… preternaturally talented… the best instrumental concert I have seen all year by virtue of its rethinking of the basics of what a recital might be” - The New York Times
