Courtenay Casey joined AMOC* as Executive Director in August 2022 and was most recently the Chief Operating Officer at the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC). In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the implementation of a recently completed five-year strategic plan and the organization’s day-to-day operations. In addition, Casey ushered YPC through a robust expansion of the organization’s digital presence and led a work-from-home and return-to-work transition due to the pandemic shutdown. Previously, she was Executive Director and first Programming Director at National Sawdust (NS), a state-of-the-art venue in the heart of Brooklyn. There, she produced over 10 operas and a free virtual reality opera experience at Prospect Park (in partnership with Celebrate Brooklyn and Beth Morrison Projects) for an audience of 6,000 people. Working closely with Creative Director Paola Prestini, she created and developed National Sawdust’s flagship Artist Residency program and Summer Labs, from which Broadway World heralded, “National Sawdust is at the forefront of classical programming, pushing the charge to awaken our awareness of the innate underpinning of music within our fallible humanity.” Casey has spearheaded and led large-scale partnerships throughout her career, including with ALL ARTS, Rolex Foundation, Meyer Sound, and Music Academy of the West. She is a New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor graduate, a North Brooklyn Chamber of Music Board member, and serves on the Artistic Advisory Committee for the Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
