INAUGURAL FESTIVAL: American Repertory Theater / Cambridge, MA
December 15-18, 2017

RUN AMOC! AT THE AMERICAN REPERTORY THEATER

2017 FESTIVAL PROGRAM

A STUDY ON EFFORT
Harvard Dance Center | December 15 & 17

A Study on Effort explores connections between sound, body and duration. An hour-long dialogue between dancer BOBBI JENE SMITH and violinist KEIR GOGWILT, the piece transposes different physical and emotional tasks between music and movement. Efforts are supported and transformed in the exchange between gesture and sound, finding pleasure at the boundaries of the two artistic disciplines.

CAGE MATCH
OBERON | December 16

Violinists MIRANDA CUCKSON and KEIR GOGWILT face off in duets by Telemann, Donatoni, and Wolff; countertenor ANTHONY ROTH COSTANZO goes head to head with ZACK WINOKUR in Scene III of Monteverdi’s Poppea; and MATTHEW AUCOIN faces fellow pianist CONOR HANICK in masterpieces of the four-hands repertoire and a new piece of his own.

WERE YOU THERE
Loeb Drama Center | December 18

A theatrical piece in which hymns, spirituals, songs, and audience participation come together in a multimedia meditation on the lives of black men and women lost in police killings over the past year.

OR SCHRAIBER and BOBBI JENE SMITH, dancers
MIRANDA CUCKSON and KEIR GOGWILT, violinists
featuring original music by MATTHEW AUCOIN

Building on the cross-disciplinary work performed in A Study on Effort (“chilling, thrilling rawness,” New York Times), which was featured as part of the inaugural Run AMOC! Festival at A.R.T., BOBBI JENE SMITH and KEIR GOGWILT's newest project explores ideas of care and caregiving through music, dance, and spoken word. Conceived as a drama between two twinned characters, a caregiver and a wounded spirit, With Care is a physical investigation of vacancy, loss, and passion.

With Care is a co-commissioned production by ODC Theater, San Francisco, and AMOC.
